Happy Fathers Day

To all the Dad’s out there, thank you! To my Dad I add: “Im sorry, im sure Gavin will get me back for all I did to you!”. For my first fathers day, Gavin helped me install the baby locks on all the cabinets in the kitchen and hang shelves in his room. Then we went to John Bryan State Park and walked around with Laura and Brian. All in all, it was a great day! I am quick with the pictures this time. Click Here for a link to the pics!

Wow, what a MONTH!

This has been quite a month around here. As many of you know, or may not know, Mom and Dad went to Australia this month to visit Katie and Ryan. It started out rather rocky: it was raining heavily and Dad got a speeding ticket on the way to our house so we could take them to the airport. :( But the plane made it without any further problems. Mom and Dad got a little sick towards the end of the trip, but had a great time! They brought Gavin back a hand sewn quilt from Ryans family…THANKS SO MUCH!! All the animals are so neat to look at. They got to see Ryan and Katies new family member, Basil and went to the beach and the zoo. Dad went fishing…so jealous!

Meanwhile, back in the states, Stephanie, Gavin and I went up to Grandma Cindy and Grandpa Jakes for Memorial Day. Gavin got to go crawl around in the grass up at Kingwood Center, which is a large flower garden. It also has some peacocks running around and a few other birds. That weekend, Gavin got his first taste of real food…PEAS! Needless to say, Gavin is a Bodey and has no problem with food. Since then he has taken a liking to squash and carrots!

Gavin started crawling the day after Memorial Day! Grandma Cindy provided ample training when we were up there that provided the last nudge he needed to become mobile. By Thursday night he was sitting up on his own and pulling himself up…which we found out can be a problem. Last weekend Stephanies childhood friend Annie came up to hang out. We had a bonfire last Friday and put Gavin down for the night. I was hanging out downstairs waiting for Gavin to cry himself to sleep when I heard a very loud THUD upstairs. My heart dropped and I ran upstairs to find Gavin lying on the hardwood floors! We had not dropped the mattress down yet and he had pulled himself up and flipped over the top railing…which is about 4ft. off the ground. We rushed him to the hospital, but just like all Bodey’s, he has a thick skull and was smiling and flirting with the nurses while we were waiting to see the doctor. We were up until 3am and everything was fine. I wish I could say this will be the last time we take him to the hospital, but I know it wont be. Just let this be a lesson to all you new parents out there (im looking at you Jim and Sue), they grow up SO FAST and they will be climbing around like monkeys before you know it!

Speaking of hospital trips…Mom thought she could fly again and managed to fall down at work again. She was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and everything is ok. She has a swollen lip and a twisted ankle, but she was still able to come here after she got out of the hospital and see Gavin.

Just in case everyone forgot, or hasent received the invite, the family BBQ/Potluck is coming up quickly, in July. So dust off those crock pots and start thinking of what good stuff your going to make…Gavin is looking forward to meeting everyone!

There are links to pictures throughout this post for everyones looking enjoyment. I have also updated Gavins Pictures as well. Hopefully things will start to calm down a bit, but I will settle for no more hospital trips.

1/2 Year Old

Gavin is officially 6months old today and to celebrate we took him to the doctors and he got a shot! :,( But, all is well, its just his well-baby shots. His height was 26 1/2 inches long and 15 lbs 15oz. We have having a bit of trouble getting him to sleep and stay asleep, but the doc gave a few pointers on getting him to sleep…let him cry! Steph gets to be the “good parent” and feed him and I get to be the “bad parent” and let him cry at night…what joy! We are also going to start real food soon…probably starting out with peas or green beans. No bannanas or brocoli yet, he is having enough problems pooping! Last Sunday he got to meet his cousin Lily for the first time, not to mention Jim, Sue, Uncle Tim and Aunt Cathy. It was a fun time, and hopefully the pictures will be up soon!

Family BBQ

Well, now that things have “calmed down” a bit for this year, Steph and I are thinking about hosting another family BBQ this summer.  For those of you that did not attend the last one, this is open to all family members (and honorary ones…im looking at you Laura and Brian) from both the good side and the dark side. I will let you all decide who fits in where!

This time around though, the budget is tight so we are going to do this potluck style. I hope to get invite around…ASAP!! If anyone has a specialty food they would like to make, let Steph or I know so we can add you in. We will be providing the “meat” (probably just hamburgers, brats, sausage, hotdogs and hotcats) so that should be covered. I figured a lot of people brought additional food last time, so this wouldnt be that big of a deal.

So far the best date we have is July 19. Why this date? Blame it on Arden and Lori…thats the date his family is out in Ohio from Colorado and they can spend some time with everyone.

So sign up, mingle with the family. Meet Gavin and Lily (and everyone else of course). Please come…or I will feel like such a loner!

More Basil!

We have survived our first week as parents. We have experienced the no sleep, the poop, the puddles, the constant crying, and both have numerous nibble marks and scratches from sharp puppy claws, but we have made it through! We even went to our first puppy kindergarten class and got lots of suggestions for dealing with the drama! All in all, it’s so much fun! Especially when he is asleep on your lap and you get to pat his silky soft ears! Aww!

How to post a picture

I thought i would add a quick tutorial on posting pictures in the Bodey Blog. When writing a new post, there are a series of small icons on the top of the area you write you post in. Most of these icons are similar to word processors (Bold, Italics, Strikethrough, bulleted lists, enumerated list, quote and justification). Just above these icons is the “Add media” area. The icons beside this relate to adding an image, video, audio or general media. Clicking on the “Image” button will bring up a dialog to either upload an image from your computer or enter in one from a web page address (URL). If you click on “Upload from Computer” a dialog will open to select the image. Once selected, the final dialog will be to add a title, comment and description. In this last dialog there is a button that says “Insert Into Post”. This will send the image into the  current post you are writing. This same process can be used for any type of media. I hope this helps  with the posting confusions!

Mis Familia

Well things are kinda rough around here this past week. I had another business trip out to Denver CO so Steph go to stay home with Gavin. Gavin however, decided to get sick last weekend with a barking cough. So G’Ma Bodey and G’Ma McIntire came down and helped out Steph (THANK YOU so much!!). We have started feeding “real” food to Gavin this week. Real as in ground up rice flakes mixed in with breast milk…mmmm tasty! The last couple of nights have been rough even though there are three of us here. Steph came down with a cold so she has been out of commission these past two nights because of the Nyquil. Gavin is waking up every hour or so. “Luckily” I came back home Thursday night so I can help out with the kiddo! But whats nice is I get to finally participate in my child’s feeding! G’Ma Cindy is leaving today and I get to go back to work tomorrow. I think Steph is feeling better, but only time will tell.

I have put up some more pictures in the Gavin Jacob photos section. The updated pictures are of the 4 months old.
