Big Boy Bed!!

Big Boy Bed!!

Gavin got a new “Big Boy Bed” this week. He was really excited because it was his friend Joeys’ bed! We havent tried it out at bed time yet though, still waiting on the closet door to be finished staining and he was running a fever. Hopefully this weekend he will get to try it out and do away with the crib, at least until Kaden moves into his room!

Family Update

Kaden relaxing after a hard poop!

Kaden relaxing after a hard poop!

Well life around the Bodey household is definitely more interesting. Kaden is now two weeks old. He is quite the eater and pooper, doing both about every two hours or so, sometimes more! Makes for very LONG nights. His one week checkup went well. He was up to 8lbs, surpassing his birth weight and not needing to supplement formula like his big brother.  He has a small ‘V’ at the top of his bottom that had the doctor a bit worried about an unformed spine. But after a ultrasound, everything checked out great, he just has a ‘V’. The doc also informed us that since his cord was wrapped around his neck (twice) and tied in a knot, that it is indicative of down-syndrome. However, Kaden does not have any of the typical down-syndrome signs: lethargic, non-movement, slacked face, so we (including the doc) are not worried about this one.

Gavin is doing well. He loves being a big brother, not being able to go to bed until he has kissed Kaden goodnight. He had his 18

month (can you belive it…a year and a half ALREADY!) checkup. He is up to 33″ long and 26lbs. He is a “solid” kid as my Grandmother would say. He is having a bit of trouble coping with all the changes that have been happening, throwing tantrums and not wanting to eat. But it is nothing we cant handle. Gavin has talking up a storm though and will mimick just about every word that he hears, so we have to be careful what we say! ;-) His favorite words so far are “choo-choo”,  “more”, “no”, and “asper” (our dog, Jasper). He is starting to say “brother” at times and definatly “mama” and “dada”. Steph and I got an “18 month test” from the doctor to determine how far along your

child should be and I must say Gavin could do everything on the list and then some. His fine motor control is by far his best, being able to use forks and spoons with ease (as well as climb and jump). He is definatly lacking in the social category however. He is VERY shy around new people, taking around an hour to warm up to them. This includes kids. But Steph and I were both shy as kids, heck I still am.
Steph and I are doing alright, as well as can be expected. She is still recovering from the c-section, and a bit bummed that she cant pick up Gavin yet. Kaden is still keeping us up at night, but that is to be expected. Stephanie’s Mom stayed the first week after Kaden was born and was a TREMENDOUS help! I think we would have pulled out all our hair if she wasn’t here.  I went back to work that first week while she was here and took off the second week to help out. I go back to work next week, so we will see how Steph does caring for two!

I added more pictures to Kadens Gallery. Check em out when you get a chance.

Kaden Thomas

Posted by Stephen on Wednesday May 20, 2009 Under Family

Welcome to the world KadenKaden Thomas Bodey was born today at 6:45am. Mom started labor around 11pm the night before. After getting the epidural, Kadens heart rate dropped and he would not descend. The doctor rushed Mom to the OR for an emergency cesarian. Kaden had his cord wrapped around his neck twice and tied in a knot! Thankfully, Mom and son are doing great. Kaden came into the world healthily screaming and pink, weighing in a 7lbs 15oz and 22″ long. Mom is very sore in the tummy region, for obvious reasons. Kaden has taken to breast feeding like a champ, but only after he has a nice healthy poop! For now, he is very quiet (knock on wood) and sleeps rather well, but I think that he still has some of the knockout drugs Steph has coarsing through his system.

Updated the pictures. Check em out!

Lots of updates, so little time

Posted by Stephen on Monday Mar 30, 2009 Under Family

Its been quite some time since I last posted anything on here. A lot has been going on what with work, life, pregnancy, surgeries etc.

I Love my Auntie and Unclie!

I Love my Auntie and Unclie!

Mom had knee replacement surgery last month, right before Katie and Ryan arrived from Australia. The surgery went well, but the recovery has been difficult. I think Mom was expecting to recover as quickly as she did for the first knee but it has been slow going. She was doped up on drugs for a while, which was doubly troubling because Katie and Ryan were here. I know she wanted to go run (well, maybe casually meander) with them more, but she was in too much pain. She is slowly recovering now, she can bend her knee but not quite all the way flat. She has some new gizmo to help pull her knee down that she says is working. One day at a time I suppose.

Katie and Ryan came back to the USA for a brief visit during February. We had some good times playing with Gavin, visiting with family, tubing and catching up. The trip went well, but as always much too short.

Going Back in Time

Going Back in Time

Steph is really feeling the pregnancy now, feeling large and heavy. The baby is due in 7 more weeks (22 May)!! In no time at all we will have another Bodey Baby around the house.  Steph and Gavin have been going out with some of their friends Dena and Joey throughout the week, frequenting McD’s and LaRosa for lunch.  We have also gotten to hang out with Cassie and Lily a couple of times for playing.

I am hanging in there, work by day, Gavin and relaxing at night. We are redoing the kitchen walls right now. Tore down all the old “stone” looking wall paper and paneling. I have a lot of spackeling to do to smooth out some of the walls. They had some “nice” 50’s – 70’s looking wall paper/linoleum under the paneling that has been a pain to get off.

Last but not least, Gavin has been doing great. He has been quite the socialite these last couple of weeks with 3 birthday parties! He has been talking more and more trying out words left and right. He likes to “sing” along to “Row, Row, Row”, there is no boat, just row, row, row! He is very active, constantly running, climbing and banging on things. He likes to climb into the dining room chairs and sit like a big boy.  We have been taking him outside as much as we can when the

Gavin and the Great Outdoors

weather is nice. He like running around and playing in the dirt! Its so much fun watching him enjoy being outside, even to the point of he does NOT want to go back inside…even when its chilly! Steph and I are going to invest in a play fort, slide and swing for him and his brother this summer. He enjoyed swinging at his cousin Lily’s birthday party so much that we have to get him one! Gavin is a bit shy around new people though. It takes him about an hour to get warmed up. I suppose thats a good thing though, hes cautious. Sometimes I wish he would be more outgoing, but then I am not that way around new people either.

I have posted a TON of new pictures…finally. So all of you who were waiting for the pictures…HA…I made you read through all this just for the links!

Gavins First Haircut

Posted by Stephen on Tuesday Feb 10, 2009 Under Family

Mommy was a bit squeamish, would he freak out? Get stabbed by a negligent pair of scissors? Nope…our little man was as happy as could be during his first haircut! Steph didnt feel comfortable cutting his hair since we are getting family pictures next week, so she took him to a professional…one with a race car chair!! Gavin did great, no fussing, no screaming, no blood! Yay Gavin!

Snow Dayz 2009

Pictures of Gavins first snow.

Pictures of Gavins first snow.

What a winter wonderland! As many have heard, Ohio (not to mention about 13 other states from Texas to Maine) got hit with some SNOW! It snowed from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon STRAIGHT! Dayton area got hit with about 8 – 10 inches, more the further north you went.
This was Gavins first real experience with snow. We had that one piddly snow fall last week (1/2 in…if that) and he got to go out, but nothing compared with this! Boy, did he have fun except when he couldn’t walk in the deep snow. He loved watching the snow fall, and picking it up. He didnt get to stay out long, but it sure was fun!

Happy Holidays

Posted by Stephen on Sunday Jan 4, 2009 Under Family

Whoops forgot to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year…better late than never I suppose. The holidays we different for us this year, Steph Gavin and I got to wake up in our own beds and have Christmas morning with just us. It was VERY exciting. There were a couple of unwrapped presents from Santa that Gavin saw when he first came down the stairs. He was SO EXCITED! He ran to those gifts and started playing with them. So fun! Later that day we headed up to the Grandparents in Mansfield and had Christmas up there and the following week had Christmas with my parents. All in all, Gavin had three Christmas’s…not too shabby.
I have posted the pictures HERE.

Bodey News Update

Posted by Stephen on Monday Dec 22, 2008 Under Family
Our little man!

Our little man!

I want to apologize to everyone…I have been a bit lapse on my updating of the website with new news. Steph and I have our hands full with our little one year old. My how time flies, only seems like yesterday he was born and now he is running around. Yes, my son is now running…not just walking. Well, I guess its more of a fast walk, but for an infant he’s quick! He is growing too, 30.5 in. tall (75%) and 21.8 lbs (25%) Gavin has taken to eating real food now including whole milk. His favorites are chicken and peas. He comes and goes with his vegetables, some days liking carrots and green beans and others not wanting to touch them. He is EXTREMELY curious about everything, pointing at everything and waiting for a response from Mom or Dad about what it is. He has learned where his dirty diapers and trash go although sometimes it takes a bit of cohersion to get him to leave the diaper or trash in there! Since he was born, Steph and I have been trying to teach him some basic sign language: Milk, food, more, please and the ever popular poop. So far he recognizes food and milk, but he hasnt repeated the motions himself. Just last week, Gavin started doing “more” to indicate he wants food, but usually he uses it in the correct context. At least he is trying! However, he has also started crying when he dosent get what he wants. It dosent last long, but its enough…

Our little alien

Our little alien

As for Steph, she is doing well. The pregnancy is coming along nicely. Steph had the first official ultrasound on the 12th. The baby is about 16 – 17 weeks along and ~7oz. Steph is feeling this one a bit earlier than the other one. The radiologist tech said the baby measures at 17 weeks old except for the legs, which are at 16 weeks. Steph says the “official” age of the baby is 16 weeks so either we have a REALLY big kid or a regulare size kid with shorter legs…only time will tell. Ok this is the time in the post where those of you who dont like surprises need to go look else-where…

Our little boy!

Our little boy!

It seems like only yesterday you can sreaming into this world. Such a tiny little boy and now your walking all over the place, pointing at everything and wanting to know everything around you! Happy 1st birthday my son!

He has had two birthday parties, thee first one was with all his friends, Cassie, Joey, Tony, and Nicolas. The second was with family. Thanks for all the presents and gifts! He has played with them all! He still not sure about the un-wrapping of the presents, but I think it was mainly due to the amount of people around. He was getting distracted! The biggest hit thus far: his pull behind helicopter! He like being able to walk and pull the helicopter along behind him!

Added his pictures from his birthday. You can click on the link on the left side of the main page or  www.thebodeys.com/photogallery/Gavins1stBirthday/index.html

Pregnancy Update

Posted by Stephen on Wednesday Oct 22, 2008 Under Family
Our little peanut.

Our little peanut.

Steph had the first ultrasound today, just to get a better idea on the approximate due date: ~28 May 2009. The baby will be 9 weeks old tomorrow, assuming the doctor uses the date the technician said. The fetal heart rate was 160bpm which is right where it is supposed to be. The picture above you can make out the head and the torso and two little appenadages (aka arm and leg) and the umbilical cord. Squint if your having trouble, it probably wont help, but you will look funny doing it! :)

Steph is doing ok, very tired and nauseated which is coming very early this time around. She says she is “feeling it more” than when she was pregnant with Gavin.
